One of the most enjoyable aspects of my IFS journey so far is that, with my newfound awareness of a few seriously blended parts, I can now ask them to step aside and make room for other parts, and they are for the first time getting some primetime

Anyways with this realization & upon making their acquaintance (it has been quite tough to get them to step aside), they have eased up a little and it is so cool the difference it makes in my day to day life!!

I have a lot more empty mental space, where I am like this human shell looking around with no thoughts. OR I am allowing emotions to enter me and drench me and I don't try to intellectualize my way out of it

Most significantly, I feel like I am in my body/instincts... like I intuit my way through interactions and it is a half step faster than all my thinking parts, it feels more natural and loose

The coolest part was seeing it on paper, in my journal entries. My writing changes dramatically when my thinking parts step back and my instinctive parts lead the way. In the past even when I did a stream of consciousness it was in normal syntax, made of sentences etc

Whereas in more recent entries, I play with untraditional punctuation, the writing is more rhythmic/echoes music or tumbles with the visceral sensation of an emotion/experience, and it feels like other parts jump in and take the mic at times.

I used to be like— how does someone follow their intuition? Do you sort of lick a metaphorical finger and hold it up to the wind..? And now I think a big part of it is asking your thinking parts to take a step back.

Last thought is that dancing or playing music has always felt like a short circuit to being in body. But even then, it would be good to remind thinking parts to make room for other parts.

Many IFS books say this, but in my experience, it's not necessarily true. Different people can have very different visual representations of things.
