people who do relationship check ins, what are your best practices? structures? rituals? ways to end on good emotional note? communication protocols....??

I’ve been with my wife for 18 years but I’m not sure what a “check in” is. I mean if you require a post it note to remind you to drink coffee, probably means you don’t love coffee.
