We do it specifically because salary negotiation tends to unfairly penalize the marginalized & disadvantages those with a lower pay history.

Totally agree. I once had a coworker tell me he turned down another job offer that paid $35k more than what I was making.

I love the transparent salary info as well, but I find making a sales engineer solve fizbuzz programming problems a bit wrong.
