There might be nothing as agile as, after a change, gaining within • <10 seconds 90%, • <10 minutes 100% confidence about whether the change is releasable, and then releasing it. XP embraces change and calls this courage, fast feedback, and Continuous-All-The-Things.

  2. Currently, it seems to take 2 weeks for bugs to be analyzed and published. And there seems to be no opportunity for any further engagement with the bug report. As if doesn't WANT to improve Java.

  3. Most of the true agility that I've experienced in projects was not the result of big change. It was the result of caring about your craft and continuously performing micro-improvements wherever possible.

8 hour work days are a counter-productive fantasy. A software developer who spends 4 hours coding in the zone and 2 hours on customer support did not do 75% of a day. They did two jobs well.

Code should contain all the comments it needs. Pro-tip: write code to need fewer comments.

3 coaches I know on 3 different gigs confirmed cases in which members of a team felt alienated when others on the team spoke about work in a language they didn’t understand. No team or org ought to allow such deeply dysfunction behavior.

  8. Hey you block somebody fighting for democracy from your airline, at the same time you send spam with the tag , don't you get the irony? I think I'll block you from flying my company, and will recommend others to do the same until you wake up.

That's why I have more trust in advice from experienced product developers than from consultants.

  12. Translation: "The establishment of agile organization principles without removal of their Taylorist opponents inevitably leads to problems and frustration. Agility isn't an upgrade of a decrepit organization structure, but a redesign."

  13. Advice to developers who want to be good: At least once in your life stay in the same spot long enough (several years!) to observe the consequences of all your actions and decisions. Job hopping every few months risks deceiving yourself about important aspects of code quality.

I know it sounds so reasonable and people spend so much time on it, but it just doesn’t actually work very well. You aren’t going to estimate your way to predictability. People sure have tried hard, with the best intentions, and I’m not making fun of anyone here.

  19. Yet another reason why "technical agility" comes before "business agility". Technical agility w/o business agility still delivers value and acts as an enabler. Road to success. Business agility w/o technical agility causes pressure and unfulfilled expectations. Road to hell.

It's been around a long time. Depressingly, at last week, some leading practitioners said they see less and less of it, even though it is shown to reduce bugs by 70% (more, in my experience). It's hard to learn, ppl won't make the big investment, despite ROI.
