i tried to tell this to my son getting his flu shot but he instead tried to swat the syringe away and then clenched every muscle in his body as hard as he could, i was so so sad for him
-
My trick is to look away from the person with the needle and focus on the wall or something

A good way to do this is to place your palm on the outside of your thigh and press firmly. It automatically relaxes the muscle at the point where the needle goes in

It’s true! I used to have extreme needle anxiety and my dad is a doctor and he said one of the reasons it hurt was because I got so tense. For a bit when I was a kid they used a local numbing gel but after a while I was able to relax on my own

I always tell the person giving me the shot that I know I'm supposed to relax, but I physically cannot, and I know that means it'll hurt so just give me the shot

-
Same. Seriously, let’s just get to the other side of this.
