See the @s4pm post on Epic’s new home page message, by @DocJohnG - perfect description of how this is a pure example of paternal thinking: “No, kids! You don’t understand! We’ll decide that for you - you might hurt yourself”https://participatorymedicine.org/epatients/2020/01/epic-using-scare-tactics-paternalism-opposes-onc-rule.html …

True. Door #1 -- Epic's paternalism is distasteful. Patients will still need to be wary of what's behind Door #2 -- apps/big tech platforms.

I am sooo exhausted hearing of how these multi-b/million dollar companies are trying to protect my privacy. Tell the truth: your tragically deficient technology needs to be completely revamped to meet modern expectations and you don’t actually know how

Similar to what has happened with 23 and me etc. If a family member shares their genetics, they share part of yours too. This is why patients deserve to have complete control over the data they pull from an EHR.
-
They need complete control of the data IN the EHR, at point of creation, not just when pulling from it. If EHRs did this openly, the terms and conditions of data stewardship could be imposed on 3rd party apps

1) I would be interested in other people’s thoughts on this study that
@epic cites here. The 79% citation of apps “sharing or reselling” data doesn’t seem an accurate representation AND it was 24 apps- only 14 of which were consumer appshttps://www.bmj.com/content/364/bmj.l920 … - Još 2 druga odgovora

It’s ironic for Epic to say that 79% of health apps share or sell data when they do exactly this without being transparent or asking patient’s permission
-
Please, support your claim. I work in this area and have no knowledge of Epic selling data at all. (Although I don't work for Epic and don't know everything about them). Epic doesn't store patient data - the providers do. Epic doesn't have rights to sell it.
