I'm amazed that they don't. It's blindingly obvious that'd be necessary.

That's what Epic's been doing for about 15 years. They hire young, bright kids out of college and then have them go campout in some part of a hospital for months and just observe and take notes. No preconceived notions + real-time learning = Epic's secret sauce.
-
Is this a joke? Epic is a 40yo company and from personal experience, that is not what Epic does. Young and bright, sure. Camp out in hospitals? No.

These are the initiatives that will truly transform health innovation. IMO also: get more docs to spend time in Silicon Valley understanding the process of medical software/hardware development and have them learn that business is not evil.

In my eye most doctors don't even want to use passwords, sooo how far are we really going to get with this?

Shadowing is a great start, but not nearly enough. You need a way to know where the friction rubs are in our workflow everyday. This is critical, especially after rollout. To make docs happy the real key is adapting to our needs in realtime when things aren't working.

Would work great if the users (doctors) are the ones making the decision to buy the software in larger hospital systems.... but usually not the case.

We need to fix regulations and policies that make this hard. There’s no substitute for PMs shadowing and using the products they build.
