The most cynical interpretation of all this, one I can't quite bring myself to accept, is they rolled out the model showing 100k deaths after they knew it would be less than that so they could anchor everyone to that # and take a vicotry lap when "only" tens of thousands died.https://twitter.com/atrupar/status/1248016552575651842 …

When will everyone learn - he has no bottom. He has no plan. He only cares about appearances and numbers and the illusion of success that he can try to spin into further wins. It's how he ran his real estate/product scams. It's a facade. They've normalized low expectations

Used to do this in restaurants with wait times. Always tell the guests a longer wait time so that they are delighted when it's not that long.

yes the reason I can't quite accept it is because of that and the IMHE model is a real and publicly accessible thing.

And that's assuming *if* **only** tens of thousands die. I'd ask how could anyone vote GOP after this Presidency*, but white supremacy is more pervasive than air.

Given how dire the estimates were, the 100k was them continuing to downplay the pandemic. The questions is also timeframe. Although we may come in under 100k for the summer, the pandemic is far from over. The second wave of the 1918 pandemic was far more deadly than the first.
