This story happened bc women took the lead. The lead journalist @carolecadwalla is a woman. The UK Information Commissioner is a woman. The lead team at the Guardian are women. My lawyer @tamsinallen1 is a woman. A lot of tech bros ignored this until women showed us it mattered.

So if everything IS illegal.. why isn't anything happening to stop all this mess?
-
Because Labour are ignoring the issue and not pushing the Government on it.
-
Good point. Is that in the mistaken belief that Russia can’t be culpable?
-
It's because Labour under Corbyn hasn't figured out yet the 'opposition' part of 'the opposition'. They're willingly ignoring evidence and are essentially trying to wait out until Brexit actually happens so that they can then 'show' how morally bankrupt the Tories are. Reckless.
-
Please stop this nonsense. You’re blaming Corbyn for something that isn’t his making. Facts are clear: Corbyn never called the referendum, Corbyn isn’t in government, he isn’t the one negotiating Brexit with the EU. So, put your blame where it belongs.
-
But it IS his job to oppose, why did he let Article 50 pass through? He should have been opposing every step of the way. He IS the leader of “Her Majesty’s opposition”. It’s the dictionary definition of his job.
-
Put it this way: Brexit is toxic for the tories & is eventually going to destroy them for generations. Corbyn doesn’t need to fight it at this point because he knows it will be reversed once Labour takes over. Corbyn isn’t a saint but he’s always been on right side of history.
-
I think JC actively wants Brexit as a thing. And if he can pin the blame for all the downsides on the Tories, for him that's a bonus.

HAHAHAHAHAHA 500k fine? For Facebook? A company that makes billions of dollars in profit every year? A company that avoids billions in taxes by hiding in tax havens? $500k? Hilarious, they won't even flinch if they have to run this scam again. Pocket change.
-
Unfortunately, it's the maximum penalty the ICO could issue against Facebook under UK law.
-
Yeah, those laws need an update.
-
They have now been updated. If the breach occured after 25th May when GDPR was implemented the fine would have been hundreds of millions.
-
Well that's, awfully convenient.
-
It should be an effective deterrent, though. I hope.
-
Agree, at least the EU is doing something to try preventing it from happening again. More than you can say from most govts.
-
Actually under GDPR a company can be fined 4% of total global turnover or 40 million EUR whatever is higher if it is found incompliant Did they break GDPR? For Facebook still peanuts, though https://www.i-scoop.eu/gdpr/gdpr-fines-guidelines-application-penalties/ …

Only $500k?
-
It's the maximum fine allowed under UK law. The ICO can't go any higher.
-
Should be £1000 per person of misused data...per company.. that would sting.
-
I was just saying that there needs to be a Class Action Law Suit where individuals sue fro damages of use of data without there permission and of the subterfuge allowed by FB to allow these analytic companies easy/deliberate access

I Never Did Care for 'Money Mark.' He always struck alot of people as Shady.
-
Mark started up facebook to judge college girls' appearance by rating. Likely as revenge for getting dumped.
