I don’t think you need to find a source to corroborate an on-the-record statement of a lawyer for the president. The statements are not printed to prove some exterior points; they are statements of his position on a matter.

As to your initial point, yes, I could go further. I’ve already said so in the past; I could certainly add a sentence. This story itself does show where Giuliani is backtracking on an interview from earlier in the day. I am showing the reader right there that there are issues.

Thank you for your responses. I am curious why more reporting doesn’t explore the motivations for the lies rather than repeating them / hinting that the person might not be speaking in good faith. Isn’t the real story why they are spreading a given lie at a given time?

As for corroboration, he was speaking to legal strategy and there are other members of the President’s team who could also speak to the strategy. Does Kelly agree on the record w what Giuliani said? If he won’t, what does that tell us? Etc
