[I am so grateful to be privileged to live a life where I can do the work I do, take care of myself, go see a movie, walk home listening to the incredible music from an amazing performance that I was able to see, and share it all. A life second to none.]

Someone earlier today talked about — despite the difficulties — how amazing he feels it is to be able to be alive today in DC living his life, and that really struck me.

It’s true for me, too. A “me” probably could not have succeeded to the extent I have—and certainly not in the way I have—25 years ago, let alone before that. And, if I had been able to do so, I would almost surely have needed to sacrifice something that I consider precious to me.

But here I am, sober and living a completely out gay life, working at a job that allows me to seek out what I consider to be the key national legal stories of the time, with love and support from an amazing family and wonderful friends and colleagues. That’s pretty fantastic.

Oof. Since Into the Woods in high school, to be honest. It was so different than Phantom and Les Miz, the first two I saw on big stages — it was such fun, both linguistically and performance-wise, then I saw Forum in college and I was sold.
