I imagine it partially has to do with Netflix’s focus on pushing its own new content, but Hulu has some pretty successful stuff of its own, too, so I don’t think that’s quite the whole answer.

They both have plenty of data on me, and there is stuff I am wanting to watch on both services, but Hulu presents the shows I want to be watching right up top and Netflix makes me search and guess and hope I remember.

*plenty of stuff both coming from them and hosted by them, to be clear

Yes, it is completely about the user interface. (And don’t even get me started on Amazon, but they’re slightly different bc they’re fitting within a larger system.)https://twitter.com/jonrosenberg/status/990443908583841792?s=21 …

My theory is Netflix pushes users to watch unpopular things (i.e., things you don’t care about) to please content providers. Hulu doesn’t have to do that because they’re supported by their network partners.

Oh. That’s smart.

You spend more time watching Hulu than Netflix so it gets you better

Nope. It’s not about algorithms. It’s about the user interface, the way the system is set up.

It’s the opposite for me. Hulu seems to mostly recommend whatever new generic tv is available. Although I do mostly use to watch current tv. Do you use it for movies?
