I think it’s very clear at this point: Cohen’s lawyers were seeking to make it look like the very existence of attorney-client privilege was at risk here, and an unnamed client (whose papers were at risk of being in prosecutors’ hands) was caught in the middle.https://twitter.com/kyledcheney/status/986309316025225216 …

So, it's not very clear at all, actually. We need more information.
-
Well, no. One thing can be very clear (the first tweet) while some questions — even important ones — remain unanswered (the second tweet).
-
Well, not a big deal, but tho it may be clear Cohen's attys wanted it to seem that atty-client privilege was at stake, it's not at all clear Hannity was "caught" in the middle, which suggests he was some hapless victim of the attys plan. That's not clear in the least.

Using Sean Hannity of all people as a pawn in that game seems to be too monstrous of a coinky-dink.

Hannity $ to Cohen for mortgage loan reimbursement? Theoretically fits all Hannity public statements & purported privilege claim. (Admittedly sounds crazy & no evidence, but not excluded by statements]

Could it be Hannity was unaware his conversations were probably recorded at times and Cohen was trying to cover himself by saying he was a client?

Won't pretend to know the nuances of this, but doesn't "client" mean he paid for a work product? Won't there be billable hrs, invoices, and such?
-
Not necessarily bc you can represent someone pro bono. You would look for a pattern of communication and advice.
-
OK, fair enough. I know some lawyers who do pro bono, but they still count hours - maybe a tax thing or accounting convienence or taxes?
-
Not a bot; you count hours bc depending on your state and firm, they have a hour requirement to count towards pro bono service
-
OK, good to hear you are not a bot. But when I do charity work (same as Pro Bono) I keep careful records for taxes. Also, Hannity and Cohen are filthy rich, are you going with the Pro Bono theory here?
-
There can be less than altruistic reasons to represent a client pro bono. Personally I think they more than likely had a casual relationship, but Hannity wants to claim privilege bc those discussions may be embarrassing. I have no idea what the substance of those discussions are
-
Legally, as in a court of law, he is a client. No idea what he did for
#Hannity, but Hannity talked without disclosure. That's unethical.

Literally either scenario is plausible at this point.

Shouldn’t Hannitys denial be used by the prosecution to fight the initial ruling that Cohens team be given the materials? It could be argued that their not acting in good faith

Could it be that Hannity was part of this fiction all along?

I do not see how Hannity could refuse attorney client privilege without identifying himself. If Cohen did any legal work for him he was a client and Cohen was ordered to name all clients.

It was weird. Hannity seemed...surprised. Like he didn’t have any idea or heads up about the issue at all.
