JUST IN: Paul Manafort's lawyer in his DC criminal case, at almost 10:30 pm tonight, filed a request to have an extension of the weekend and Monday to file his motion to suppress the evidence obtained by Mueller's team.pic.twitter.com/jAWDfUHvUs

Judge Amy Berman Jackson had set the April 6 deadline for any motions to suppress nearly a month ago, on March 11. Can't imagine she's going to appreciate getting this motion 1.5 hours before the deadline.pic.twitter.com/tB8Ho2OpkO

Yeah, to be clear, there is no additional information in the filing. No sealed attachments, no information about consulting the special counsel's office, nothing. Here is the proposed order:pic.twitter.com/HAErkLMtIZ

Theoretically, a judge could find they can’t file motions because they’re out of time. More likely she’ll give them a brief extension, and won’t be very happy about it.

It is after midnight, and Judge Amy Berman Jackson did not rule on Manafort's request for an extension of time to file a motion to suppress regarding the search of the residence. Nor did his lawyer file such a motion. So, in theory, it's now out of time.

So I'm reading this as: 1. Former Manafort employee was leaseholder for storage unit, therefore would've been presumed by to have authority to open it upon request. 2. Feds see boxes likely belonging to Manafort. Based on plainly visible labels, they decide to get a warrant.

Whole Manafort atty argument rests on the flawed presumption "any experienced LEO would know" the employee didn't have authority. Storage unit was still in the employee's name, therefore as leaseholder was still responsible for it.

Once again Team Trump Treason is undone by their everyday sloppiness. An easy counter will be: If this former employee had no right to access the unit, why was he STILL the sole responsible leaseholder and primary contact for the storage unit after he'd been dismissed?

Real world scenario: I am at this time storing in my garage, some filing cabinets and file boxes for a friend and business colleague. If the Feds came here and asked to look in MY garage, and I gave them permission, and they saw something hinky about the file boxes... well. /end

Addendum: Learned today this employee wasn't 'former' at all. He's just working for a different one of Manafort's many LLCs. He's still a salaried employee of Manafort.
