Congrats, Jimmy, on joining up with Chelsea for "Being gay is such a funny punchline" Friday.https://twitter.com/jimmykimmel/status/982369074624647168 …

There is a long line of commentary on the issues with people telling others to "relax" or "calm down" when racism, sexism, anti-gay, anti-trans activity or comments are called out. That you are gay does not exempt you from the issues with doing so.
-
Ok. So I didn’t want to have to get into dissecting comedy with you, since you’re clearly a riot...but here it goes. Jimmy Kimmel, who is demonstrably pro-LGBTQ, uses a homosexually suggestive jab at Sean Hannity, who is demonstrably anti-LGBTQ.

I'm well aware of the "logic" behind such "jokes." It's lazy, it's not funny, and it is anti-gay because it continues the longstanding idea that being gay is a punchline. This is something
@meakoopa@LouisPeitzman and many, many others have discussed ad infinitum. -
Imagine hating yourself so much you go around fawningly giving other people permission to use your identity as an insult.
-
But also, imagine hating yourself so much that you tweet something like this to someone you don’t know.
-
That is irrational. Imagine caring about the effect of words on other people — and then you might understand what Anthony and I are saying.
