#SCOTUS grants one new case: Stokeling v. US (17-5554).
Still nothing from the justices on the Azar v. Garza cert petition from DOJ, asking #SCOTUS to take up the first appellate decision on the undocumented teen abortion case, which would otherwise be moot, in order to vacate it. The court has considered the request at 8 conferences.
#SCOTUS issues a per curiam decision in Kiesla v. Hughes, finding that Kiesla, a police officer in Tuscon, is "at least entitled to qualified immunity" for shooting a woman, Hughes, who was yielding a knife near another woman. Sotomayor, w Ginsburg, dissents.
In her dissent, Sotomayor pushes back against the circumstances at issue in the case:pic.twitter.com/SmKERDhJ9u
Sotomayor: Today's decision "tells officers that they can shoot first and think later, and it tells the public that palpably unreasonable conduct will go unpunished."pic.twitter.com/AwknxONcew
(Note: Sotomayor cites to @WilliamBaude and recently deceased Judge Stephen Reinhardt.)
Sotomayor also dissents from a denial of cert in two Florida death penalty cases: Guardado v. Jones and Cozzie v. Florida.

And, it's a one-box decision day, happening in moments. #SCOTUS
Only one decision: Encino Motorcars v. Navarro. Opinion by Thomas, reversing the 9th Circuit in a 5-4 decision along ideological lines in a Fair Labor Standards Act case.
Here is the opinion: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/17pdf/16-1362_gfbh.pdf … / Justice Ginsburg wrote the dissent for her, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan.
That’s it from #SCOTUS for two weeks (except for emergency applications). The justices have no conference this week, so next orders won’t be until April 16, when they’re back for the April sitting, which includes Texas racial gerrymandering (4/24) and the travel ban (4/25).
So you're off to #SCOTUS again & "We have orders at 9:30a." Yes, that's good. And when you then tell us what's in them, that's good, too. But you know what would really make it all pop? An intro "Orders From SCOTUS" theme song!
