Retired Justice John Paul Stevens: "[T]he demonstrators should seek more effective and more lasting reform. They should demand a repeal of the Second Amendment."https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/27/opinion/john-paul-stevens-repeal-second-amendment.html …

We repealed the prohibition of alcohol, which was an infringement on liberty to prohibit. Prohibition of guns would be a similar infringement
-
Mmmyeah but ya can't murder a class of students with alcohol in under 10 seconds so I mean it's a moot point
-
Which is why we need reform, but not removal.
-
Repealing the 2nd doesn't automatically mean prohibition. At least it shouldn't. I'd like to think people aren't hoping to repeal and replace the 2nd with an amendment prohibiting any ownership, but I've been wrong before .
-
I mean, it's worth noting that Canada doesn't have a 2nd Amendment, but technically guns are still allowed in most open and rual locations - we just can write local bylaws restricting or outlawing them in cities, and add gun controls keeping them to gun ranges, registries...
-
Interesting to know! Do cities allow guns in personal property? Like a home?
-
Don't know specifically - as I recall, there was an issue with people complaining in rual areas about Stand Your Ground *not* being a thing in Canada (They were apparently getting looted a few times), but as I recall, there's general rules that you can't discharge the weapon -
-
- except at specific gun ranges. Though had also heard you can open carry hunting rifles in Abbotsford apparently. (You'd still be approached by police and questioned, but not illegal technically) Roughly - hadn't taken gun safety myself, but it had been brought up at one point?

That’s the only amendment ever repealed in its entirety. And it wasn’t part of the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights aren’t grants of rights, etc etc. With all due respect to Justice Stevens

Ok, so lets say we repealed the 2nd. And then a law is made limiting the monitoring of elected officials and any criticism of them is labeled as a hate crime. Where would that end, how would you speak against it? Just curious.

guess that's takes away the first amendment where you can't say whatever you feel like whenever you want ... including this post without government approval
