I think many years ago the states could set their own drinking age limit, but the federal gov't wanted it increased to 21 and argued that Congress had the authority to regulate the states' age requirement under the Commerce Clause? I might be remembering incorrectly.

States did control drinking age, but in early '80s, Congress coerced states into raising it by threatening to withhold hundreds of millions of $ in federal highway funding to any state that didn't have minimum drinking age of 21.

I remember reading about that part, but I don't remember 100% the legal justification or authority that Congress argued to show its authority and goal beat states' rights. 10th amendment. I wondered if that same reasoning could be applied in the case of gun regulations.

2/2 plus, since Brown v BoE, SCOTUS has found 14thA guarantee of equal protection of law trumps 10thA, "powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, ***nor prohibited by it to the States*** (emphasis added)
