Seems likely. He made the false statement 1 Feb, they moved to withdraw the same day. Timing suggests to me it was already on their radar as a possibility. If they felt they could convince him to be truthful, no ethical obligation to w/draw until after Gates makes false statement
they almost certainly would have advised him to correct the misstatement before withdrawing, too. suggests that he REALLY wanted to mislead.
