A dude placing tenth in his competition and still becoming a “Twitter icon” for all his saucy burns is basically the parable of our times.

If “saucy burns” mean his comments about Pence, they have been in response to questions asked and really have not been “saucy burns” at all; they’ve been pretty direct statements. And, if it means “flamboyantly, unabashedly gay,” then don’t use coded language and just say it.

He did fine; he should be proud of being an Olympian and doing his best but he seems to be acting like he is something he is not and the media has promoted him the same. That is the disconnect.

I don’t see him acting like he’s anything he’s not; he’s being himself, talking in a more honest way than we expect from Olympians. That resonating isn’t all that surprising to me, though, and certainly isn’t something “the media” did. If anything, the media fought to catch up.

You realise how he made it on the Olympic team correct? How a skater who placed higher than him at US Nationals did not go because of how the "system" is set up by US Figure Skating
