White House told a staffer he wouldn't get a permanent security clearance due to "past marijuana use" — he smoked in 2013 — so he quit.https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/14/third-white-house-official-resigns-after-being-told-he-wouldnt-qualify-for-full-clearance-409246 …

Important caveat: Politico story does not have confirmation from the White House about the reasoning. Although it's stated as fact up top, the reasoning is only sourced to the staffer who is saying his security clearance was going to be denied.

So, to this White House, smoking a plant is worse than battering a spouse.

Suitability clearance based on past marijuana use is dependent on the issuing agency. DOJ (for instance) used to make any post-JD use permanently disqualifying, and may have returned to that policy since Sessions became AG.

Just gonna throw it out there that I know people with security clearances and having smoked pot years ago isn’t typically a disqualifying thing. https://www.politico.com/story/2018/02/14/third-white-house-official-resigns-after-being-told-he-wouldnt-qualify-for-full-clearance-409246 …

Past infrequent drug use can absolutely be grounds for not getting clearance. It happened to someone I am close to. They reasoning from the White House security folks was that it was too recent and it showed a "disregard for the law."

One of these things is not like the other. I don't even buy this. If he didn't lie about past infrequent use, it's usually not a problem. Unless Sessions has changed things.

ok that's silly. Prez Clinton admited marijuana exp. Prez G.W Bush was a full on alcaholic & Prez O. admitted trying cocaine. I don't know u r a risk for blackmail for doing what most Americans hv done & u admitted. Freaking Kushner hasn't gotten one form correct yet.
