Well! That was incredible. Such a fantastic performance by Michael Urie as Hamlet, as well as the rest of the cast, especially Federico Rodriguez as Horatio & Oyin Oladejo as Ophelia. Robert Joy (Polonius), Paul Cooper (Laertes), & Madeleine Potter (Gertrude) stood out as well.
Wonderful, too, to see this melding of Michael Kahn’s directing and Michael Urie’s performing talents. Go see HAMLET if and when you can. In short, “The play’s the thing!”
One of the best things about seeing Shakespeare done well is that you see the hundreds of famous lines and phrases performed in a way that ignores their fame and brings them to you on the lips of the actors as they and the director want you to hear them — like in any other play.
That, shortly followed by “Rich gifts wax poor when givers prove unkind.”
But that’s such a sad line!
God. I love that line, too. That entire exchange is so much better than the famous soliloquy that precedes it.
