Well, there is no hero and it was just written badly.

I was ready to walk out when son went from adoring the absent father to holding knife at his throat within 30 seconds. Flashback scene of mom and daughter=ridiculous. Frances perfectly placing four Molotov cocktails from second story window across street=cartoonish.
