“One reporter trying to distort 18 yr old nonstory” that Pence never directly responds to questions about, including by Rippon, who then said he wanted to focus on his competition & would consider meeting Pence later, but Pence still drags him into it by tagging him directly.pic.twitter.com/7VaKQPxfXS

Pence is referring to the USA Today reporter who published this:https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/columnist/brennan/2018/02/07/2018-winter-olympics-vice-president-mike-pence-adam-rippon-south-korea-gay-rights/314167002/ …

USA Today: “On Jan. 30, nearly two weeks after the dust-up, Rippon said that he was focusing solely on training for the upcoming Olympics. ‘I’m not trying to pick a fight with the vice president of the United States,’ he said.”

Pence, apparently: Oh, let me make it into an issue on Twitter in the days before the competition, once Rippon is already in South Korea for the Games.

And let’s not forget, Pence has a recent history of turning others’ concerns/protests over equal treatment into a thing about him:https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/blogs/right-turn/wp/2017/10/09/pences-pathetic-stunt-tells-us-a-lot-about-him/ …

And here, from @liamstack, is a report from after the 2016 election (when Pence’s spokesperson said his boss’s 2000 website wasn’t supporting conversion therapy — something many read it as having done) to give some background on the underlying issue:https://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/11/30/us/politics/mike-pence-and-conversion-therapy-a-history.html?referer=https://www.google.com/ …

And, here was @cbrennansports’ original interview with Rippon way back in mid-January that started it all:https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/christinebrennan/2018/01/17/gay-olympian-adam-rippon-blasts-selection-mike-pence-lead-u-s-delegation/1040610001/ …

Brennan: “I emailed [the VP’s staff] on Jan. 17 asking what the website statement was referring to, if not gay conversion therapy. She did not send an on-the-record reply.” / From the NYT story, describing & quoting from the 2000 website, note the last sentence:pic.twitter.com/3Yt8uI7xuR

the NYT article you linked was dated 11/30/16 (3+ weeks after election day)... Pence's former spokesman couldn't/wouldn't answer the question then, either should've never made it to election day w/o having to address the issue honestly, let alone until now... same w/the birtherpic.twitter.com/vXsM18FBye

actually, i added more context from the article you liked, which noted that Pence had never addressed the issue until weeks after election, & that his then-spokesperson "declined to explain" which celebrated orgs & groups Pence intended to target

You don’t need to reply to someone with “context” if it’s an article they shared and read and already know about. But, OK.

i was enjoying the thread & simply thought it worth highlighting a couple things you "literally" didn't mention in your own words (pence never commented prior to election - his spokesperson did more than just flatly deny)... but ok, delete this redundancyhttps://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/961481434111315968 …
