It is sexist on top off forced gender roles on top of assuming gendered expectations, aka “fragile masculinity.” It is the opposite of “let people enjoy things.” It is suggesting that if you do not somehow overperform a “manly” presentation you could feel emasculated ...
... and therefore you should instill those (negative) values in your child from birth.
Ah I see. So your issue mainly lies in the presentation of the bags by the headline as necessary to not feel emasculated, and not in the bag's existence, correct? Because there I generally do agree with you. But...
...I personally see nothing wrong with someone choosing to purchase these because they look cool over standard baby gear. So I apologize for misinterpreting you, and thank you for actually clarifying!
I bet the marketing is only to men and not to women—many of whom serve or are veterans, obviously—so I imagine it’s problematic for these reasons from idea to implementation to PR pitch to article to tweet, but in the absence of all that, sure, people should do what they want!
Definitely very true--nothing wrong with having a target market but marketing to men with the genuine, unironic idea of "you need this or you're not a real man" is just awful and tasteless.
