Gabbard (Senator and major in the Hawaii Army National guard) is criticized for not following "protocol"? Or is it really for being a woman who didn't ask for permission when she dared to take decisive action and serve her constituents when other gov elements failed them?
[She's a House member, not a senator, and, no, I don't think it is.]
Ahhh whoops. Thanks for the correction on the house member bit. But seriously, is there protocol in place for this exact situation? If I were her constituent, I'd be very grateful she did this rather than wait for others to get their act together.
I get that there is a debate — and I understand why people are glad that she did what she did — but I think the counter-argument is an important one to consider and think about going forward.
Are those the only choices?
Of course. But "one of the most laudable uses of social media by a member of Congress in history." v. https://twitter.com/MarkHertling/status/952276808333975553 … ... was a bit extreme.
That’s fair play on on the hyperbole, although the bar has been set low, but my expectation is that for those who were looking for information during that interval, that tweet mattered more than most.
I'm thankful she took swift action to tweet about it being a false alarm. But I found her appearance on CNN, before the official all clear alert had been issued, odd in that she seemed more focused on emphasizing the threat of nuclear war than on restoring the calm.
I find it hilarious Assad's bff is going off on political rants about NKm
If you were panicking, like I was, then she was a hero. But in the scheme of things, we shouldn't be getting our info from a member of Congress who called EM. Should be from governor, EM, NORAD, etc.
Remember the rumor that Gabbard was considered for a position in the
Administration?https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/powerpost/wp/2016/11/21/trump-meets-with-hawaii-democrat-tulsi-gabbard/?utm_term=.f986edb25d89 …
Chris you’re not wrong to be curious about this too. Hence how I found your tweet.
I find her instincts laudable, but I'm going to side with @MarkHertling . Not the best time to have a rogue actor on the scene.
Rep. Gabbard knew *exactly* who to contact to verify if there was a real threat...that's called 'doing your job' where I'm from...but I'm sure the NY media will find a way to put a bad spin on it. #Hawaii #FalseAlarm
