Still no opinions expected from #SCOTUS next week. Only one opinion in an argued case issued so far this term.

Notably,
#SCOTUS also granted cert in a prisoner case brought in forma pauperis — without fees — on a circuit split over how a court can decide against granting a proportional sentence reduction.Show this thread -

Not in today's grants: Hidalgo v. Arizona, the Arizona death penalty case brought by
@neal_katyal. It has been relisted several times — but, most notably, now twice since the record was requested and received.Show this thread -
I had considered the record request an ~arguable~ re-start of the consideration of the case if, perhaps, they were interested in a particular issue (like Q.1), but, at this point, I'd say we are ~likely~ looking at someone writing a dissent to (most likely) a denial of cert.

Always a ~very slight chance~ it's a dissent to a summary reversal — a good way to avoid the case and change the circumstances for Hidalgo — but that seems less likely here than a dissent (or dissents) from a denial of cert.

The Court conferenced Hidalgo v. Arizona (again) this morning. It will be interesting to see if anything happens on the case.
