Anyway, Call Me By Your Name is beautiful and will always make me cry and I connect with everyone in it because it is telling a version of my story — several of my stories.

That we got Timothée Chalamet’s Elio in CMBYN; Saoirse Ronan’s Lady Bird in Lady Bird; Daniel Kaluuya’s Chris in Get Out; and Nahuel Pérez Biscayart’s Sean in BPM is just an abundance of riches when it comes to young performers who brought everything to a role in 2017.

Along with The Shape of Water, these are the best films I’ve seen from 2017. (Still need to see a few stragglers, but I’d love to see these five — especially BPM — get the recognition they deserve.)
