In his interview with Senate Judiciary, Fusion GPS guy Simpson says -- as he said in a recent NYT op-ed -- that Steele corroborated info that FBI already had, including from a source inside the campaign. But there's a new and very interesting wrinkle. 1/pic.twitter.com/bo4QYBG60E

      This language in Simpson's January 2 op-ed drew a lot of attention. 2/ https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/02/opinion/republicans-investigation-fusion-gps.html?module=ArrowsNav&contentCollection=Opinion&action=keypress&region=FixedLeft&pgtype=article …pic.twitter.com/cUU0fwqjQU

      Eric Columbus Retweeted Natasha Bertrand

Someone "with knowledge of Fusion's testimony and the op-ed" told @NatashaBertrand that it was a reference to Papadopoulos. 3/https://twitter.com/NatashaBertrand/status/948600353167237121 …

Point of clarification on this: Simpson and Fritsch were referring to Papadopoulos in the op-ed, but we still don't know whether there was a whistleblower inside the campaign — and Fusion wouldn't necessarily know, either. https://twitter.com/NatashaBertrand/status/948404864232640512 …

But look again: Simpson testified that the inside source was "someone who was concerned about the same concerns we had" -- i.e., a whistleblower of sorts. Does that fit Papadopoulos? If so, why would he lie to the FBI in January 2017 about the campaign's Russia contacts? 4/

It's possible that Papadopoulos had moments of doubt in the campaign but after Trump won saw no benefit to deviating from the party line. 5/

Or maybe Simpson simply was wrong as to the source's motives. 6/

Or maybe -- and this is the most tantalizing possibility -- whoever spoke to @NatashaBetrand was wrong as to the source's *identity*. Maybe there was a whistleblower in the campaign, and we don't yet know who. 7/end

Or ... it was the Australian.

Yeah, I think the best way to harmonize everything that Papadopoulos was indirectly the source, via the Australian. Odd that Simpson's testimony described the source as a whistleblower -- perhaps he was just mistaken about motivation.
