I think it is reasonable to ask if there were follow-up questions at points because y’all published only a partial transcript, but, generally, I do think that people are criticizing the interview (and not the story) unfairly.https://twitter.com/maggienyt/status/946588634064580608 …

Those are my thoughts, and I appreciate all who have chatted with me about them! (See? Civility!)

OK, I’m really going to bed now. Thanks to everyone who cares so much about this. That’s a good thing! And it is fine that people disagree. That happens! Everyone can do, and be, better. But, it’s best to get some sleep first, then we can take on another day.

Not sure that defending a racist, homophobic, misogynist is a good opening to a healthy dialogue. Just say’n.
#Respectfully -
Um, feel free to direct this tweet to the appropriate person, because it sure isn’t me.

Damnit, you might be right on this one. Fair point.

apologist! the average, frustrated citizen, given this opportunity, would have known it's imperative to push back. A LOT harder.
-
OK, June. And that person would have had a different goal.
-
That is Infuriating part. He does not do press conferences or events where he would have to take hard questions. He mostly goes to media that will actively aid him. When he does go to a more serious outlet it does not seem like he ever gets the rigor any other pres would.
-
And as a frustrated citizen I want someone to confront him until he admits he is lying, does not know, or gives an actual specific answer to a policy question.

I think part of the reason Schmidt didn’t push back more is that
@realDonaldTrump was not making sense. Reading that word salad is one thing, but hearing it live, translating it to English, and responding to it, is practically impossible. -
I often tell people to read transcripts of Trump with editorial boards. You’ll often see that he’s just winging it and doesn’t have a grasp of any subject matter.

Trying to think of the Democrats that would get “just press record and flatter” treatment. Do you think Hillary would ever, in a million years, get that from the

But shouldn’t a journalist who follows POTUS around and lives and breathes this stuff have some probing questions in the can for unanticipated interviews like this? Isn’t this the dream “get” for the journalists following POTUS? He just seemed unprepared and not a participant.

"No notice" is interesting. It suggests that Schmidt was randomly at Trump golf course when Trump just happened to be there.

Ultimately, the lack of pushback against Trump spans decades. Why do people think this is something new? He is, if nothing else, a master manipulator.
