Why do people think this? I honestly don’t get it. There are more liberals willing this idea into existence by virtue of their saying it than there are Jeanine Pirro and that guy in a bad-fitting suit on Fox News saying it.https://twitter.com/espinsegall/status/942448758003990528 …

Third, I see one key sign in the Trump campaign lawyer’s letter: Why mention the Fourth Amendment? The letter raises it, which is, primarily, about trying to exclude evidence at trial/from prosecution — which isn’t an issue if you’re setting up a Mueller firing.

Oh, and just a minor fourth point: Remember that line from the NYT story about Pirro eventually going on too long on an anti-Mueller “screed” in a meeting with Trump even for him and him just walking out? That.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/09/us/politics/donald-trump-president.html …

In any event, my point is not to say that Trump will not ever fire Robert Mueller — that’s always been a possibility. My point is that I do not see anyone making any actual argument that has convinced me that this is something currently being considered.

Finally, if you’ve not read it: My story about the Trump campaign lawyer’s Saturday letter regarding transition emails, the career GSA lawyer’s comments to me, and a late-night Special Counsel’s Office statement.https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/the-trump-campaign-claims-a-federal-office-illegally-turned …

I seriously doubt "shutting down others’ careers" would be an impediment for a guy whose famous catch phrase was "you're fired". You make a lot of valid points & I hope you're right but this one doesn't wash for me. He doesn't operate according to a normal political calculus.
-
Not quite sure you're getting the underlying point there (which has been discussed elsewhere, so I didn't do so): It would involve having to order actions from/fire people who have their own support base in the Republican Party, so there's a cumulative difficulty involved.

Ah I see. Nevermind! (Emily Litella voice)

Steep price administered by whom? Certainly not Congress.

But what if he fires Rosenstein instead?

Rebuttal: this is the best argument for your case by far. But it depends on how much danger trump believes himself to be in. If he thinks evidence will come out that will end his presidency he will take any risk.

Firing Rosenstein could help accomplish Trump's objectives more effectively than firing Mueller.

So, after AG Sessions repeals the regulation that prevents Trump from firing Mueller, will you admit that it's technically easy for Trump to fire Mueller? And are you watching the FR and CFR for notice/implementation of a repeal?

you don't really think this any part in his calculus do you? "meaning that to do so would entail shutting down others’ careers as well"
