This is a tweet about a court ruling allowing transgender people to serve their country in the military, and a person responded by suggesting that they will be shot by their fellow service members.pic.twitter.com/HvsCmIfb78

In my 8 years of reporting in DC — oftentimes about the military and “don’t ask, don’t tell” and trans service — the one thing clear to me throughout is how seriously the leadership of the military takes implementing such changes once the decision is made.
The clearest example was the Marines and DADT. The Marines, up through the leadership, were the least supportive of repealing DADT. Once it was repealed, though, they *aggressively* worked to implement repeal the best.
In short, not only is this tweet appalling, it also shows a complete lack of understanding about how the military approaches such things. (And is part of why Trump’s had such a tough time reversing Obama on this; the decision was made and they were moving on.)
