[In the course of two viral tweets relating to the Russia investigation over the past few days, I've seen way too much of this. It's gross.]

Just going to respectfully disagree. The joke exists because of the horror of rape, ironically. It definitely doesn't dismiss or further it.
-
Actually it does dismiss it, and it implies that American courts sentence Americans who have broken the law to systematic rape as a punishment.
-
Plus the "joke" confirms that rape really is acceptable - and that the only objection is who the victim is; it is the outlook: "well, did they deserve it?" Rape is never ok. Never.
-
I mean seriously, why bother being on twitter and throwing something out there? To pontificate? The world has enough.

Amen! I am so sick of people thinking that prison rape is a) expected b) part of the punishment for committing a crime and c) hilarious.

It’s funny, not haha, that men don’t recognize that their worst fear of being raped in prison is a real fear women have multiple times a day, getting out of a car alone at night.
