This is really nice explainer by @chrisgeidner on 25th Amendment's history. But I'm not sure (real) ambiguity he flags is likeliest defect.1https://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/925887799408152576 …

Sasha Samberg-Champion added,
The possible trainwreck I see is that VP must be confirmed by a vote of the House _and_ the Senate. At least one house may not want to. 2/
Imagine Trump leaves office in shame (or dies) in 2019, Dems having taken the House. Pence nominates replacement VP. Do Dems confirm? 3/
Or do they let office sit vacant, and if anything happens to Pence, Pelosi becomes President? 4/
Never would happen, you say? Of course VP gets a vote, you say? Ask Merrick Garland. 5/
This wouldn't be such problem if order of succession stayed entirely in Administration (or party), so party gains nothing by doing this. 6/
Yeah, that would be the 1886 line of succession. They put back in the Speaker/Pres pro tem in 1947.
I know. They should do that again. Right now there's _way_ too much motivation for gamesmanship.
