Two weeks delayed, but here I am, ready for the new term.

It’s so overcast this morning that the lights were still on outside the court when I arrived.pic.twitter.com/IcTIJ4A84B
#SCOTUS grants 4 new cases:
- US v. Microsoft
- Currier v. Virginia
- Ohio v. AmEx
- Dahda v. US
US v. Microsoft is the big case about gov't access to data stored overseas. Background @SCOTUSblog:http://www.scotusblog.com/case-files/cases/united-states-v-microsoft-corp/ …
Gorsuch got to write about how one Cevron-related issue should be discussed by the court, though not in the case presented for cert.
That was in a statement "respecting the denial of certiorari" in Scenic America v. Dep't of Transportation.
Gorsuch was joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito in that statement. (But not Thomas.)
#SCOTUS denied cert in Quentin Marcus Truehill and Terence Oliver's Florida capital cases. Stomayor dissented, joined by Ginsburg & Breyer.
Notably, #SCOTUS did grant, vacate, & remand Tavares Wright's capital case out of Florida, to be considered further in light of Moore v. TX.
Here's the full #SCOTUS order list, with the statement/dissents to cert denials at the end: https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/101617zr_6k37.pdf …
That's it from #SCOTUS today — and for the next two weeks (with the exception of capital cases and any other applications).
Nice work getting your hair brushed last week!
Thanks! It was tough work.
Thank you for your great work!
