I belieeeeeve I was in 6th grade? 7th? So, roughly, 1989.pic.twitter.com/KQ6C5SMwcR

Anyway, books are great and you should read them. Thank god my little town in northeast Ohio gave me so many teachers who loved literature.
-
I was a dorky little kid who only started to find my way once speech and debate and drama club came into my life in high school.
-
But, before then, and during high school, I had so many teachers who saw my love of reading & encouraged it, getting me reading more & more.
-
And, so important, the public library was right next door to my middle school. I spent so many afternoons there reading everything I could.
-
It's where I first started reading great plays and actually reading some elements of gay literature.
-
Oh, another runner up that probably should have been on the original list but I primarily think of as its performance: Angels in America.
-
So, those are my top 8. Love books. ... Bed now, though. Night, all, and let us be good to one another — and ourselves.

I've tried to this but I get paralyzed. Your list is interesting. I wouldn't have expected A Shropshire Lad.
-
Read down in the thread for more talk — and pictures! — of it. It played a special role in my life.

-
Also: I, too, was paralyzed by the thought. Eventually just decided to go for it.

Shropshire Lad is some low key closeted soft core rhymes. Good pick.
-
It might be the first gay thing I read that I realized might be gay. "To An Athlete Dying Young." Gahhh.
-
My fav gay line is in 'Is my team ploughing' first of all ...ploughing, but the line 'and has he found to sleep in a better bed than mine?'

A Wrinkle in Time changed my life. Still have my copy from third grade that a dog chewed.

I loved A Wrinkle in Time, but I read it again recently and was shocked by how abruptly it just ends. Just me?
