Wrong strategy. Easier to pass joint resolution pre-committing to impeachment if any pres were to self-pardon, as an abuse of pres powers.

Is it appropriate for the Senate to bind itself to a result in connection with its trial/judicial function, even if binding is nominal?

I see advantages of a substantive "law of impeachment"...though when that law comes from the interpreter, makes me somewhat nervous.
