It's a rare two-box Friday here at #SCOTUS!
First #SCOTUS decision is Perry v. Merit Systems Protection Board, by Ginsburg, reversing the DC Circuit. Gorsuch & Thomas dissent.
Here's the Perry decision — https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/16pdf/16-399_5436.pdf … — holding that Perry wins, mixed case appeals go to district court. #SCOTUS
MEANWHILE: What's Happening With The Travel Ban At The Supreme Court? https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/travel-ban-at-scotus-preview?utm_term=.ajQDedzngX#.mfnAGX4nZe … #SCOTUS
We've got the decision in Murr v. Wisconsin, by Kennedy, joined by the liberals, affirming the Wisconsin court. #SCOTUS
The Supreme Court rules that, in this case, petitioners property is properly assessed as a single unit. Decision: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/16pdf/15-214_f1gj.pdf …
Final #SCOTUS decision today is in Lee v. US. Opinion is by the Chief, finding in favor of Lee's ineffective assistance of counsel claim.
That was unexpected!
Thomas, joined by Alito, dissents from the Chief Justice's opinion in Lee. Gorsuch did not participate. Decision: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/16pdf/16-327_3eb4.pdf …
There are six argued cases left to be decided — although the court could call for re-argument. #SCOTUS
JUST IN: Chief Justice announces Monday will be the final decision day of #SCOTUS term, giving "all decisions remaining" that are "ready."
Basically, we have 6 cases remaining, but up to 3 of them could be set for re-argument in the fall so Gorsuch can participate in arguments.
Pretty aggressive dissent from Thomas in Lee, saying the Chief's decision "will have pernicious consequences for the crim just system."
