The diversity of the SCOTUS press corps is very bad. There are several women, a few gay guys, and, usually, one woman of color.

I came into SCOTUS reporting through reporting at an LGBT publication, without a hard pass. Moved to BuzzFeed, still had no hard pass.

Well, that's a multi-faceted question. It's a matter of resources. You have to commit to doing lots of court coverage to get a hard pass.

You can cover cases that you/your publication cares about without a hard pass. I never would have thought to get one while at

And, yes, publications need to do better. Legal reporting is not very diverse at all. I'm an outlier, coming from LGBT reporting!
