depends. I think not, but you have to be careful readers don't think you haven't subjected story to scrutiny

dispassion is a cue to assure readers you're not getting carried away. But I don't think it's the only way.

Precisely, dispassion is a "cue," and one I believe the public is deeply cynical about. Reads as insincere/deceptive.

I'm with you. I think transparency is the best antidote for lack of trust. We need to adapt our methods of storytelling.
