Unless something's coming before noon, DOJ's longstanding review of the death penalty will ... not end (at least under Obama).

Instead of 62 ... it was 2 ... this week. https://www.buzzfeed.com/dominicholden/obama-manning-decision?utm_term=.lkGogy0m35#.luJpPmN9QD …pic.twitter.com/eardrjePTM

As
@gabrielmalor points out, the fed death penalty is a law passed by Congress, so it's up to them to end it.https://twitter.com/gabrielmalor/status/822319404713005058 … -
In the absence of political will to do so, of course, the way to protect the rights of unpopular people often falls to the courts ...
-
... or to finding an executive (convincing one person is a lot easier than convincing a majority of lawmakers) willing to act.
-
And so, those are the paths abolitionists have chosen in places where the legislatures have been unmoving. In Delaware, they went to all 3!
-
Del. legislature came very close to repeal, & gov supported repeal ... but then state Supreme Court effectively ended the death penalty.
-
So, yeah, it's all complicated & a bit of a mess, but there's no question that Obama ordered a death penalty review & DOJ never finished it.
-
Or, if they did, they never told anyone about it.
