This year, as we celebrate Thanksgiving, I'm thankful for my sobriety.

-
Third, all of you, both my IRL friends (if I still had any) and folks online, would've had to deal with a drunk Chris. Which could be awful.
-
Instead, though, I am here — sober for 77 months this weekend and living a life unlike any I ever could have imagined.
-
More than not being unworkable, my sobriety made this year much more workable. Did I still get stressed and act like a dick at times? Yes.
-
I'm still human, so that will always be the case! But, my sobriety gave me some insight—into not judging others' motivations & into myself.
-
As to others: My sobriety has taught me that we have no clue what's going on in someone else's head. Too much happened to get them here.
-
The best thing I can do is ask.
-
As to me: My sobriety has taught me that I must accept that there are limits to what I can do. That many, many things are out of my control.
-
That one is still hard for me, but — when I remember it — it makes everything go much more smoothly for me.
-
When going through a year like this one has been, admitting I don't know others' motivations & understanding my own limits has been a gift.
-
Those were ~not~ skills I had or employed when I was drinking, so I'm very grateful and thankful that I've learned those things since.
-
I still don't employ them perfectly. It's a life-long process, living well. But, here I am, further along than before & so grateful for it.
-
So, that's the big thing I'm grateful for this year. ... Hope y'all had a great day. Thanks for the follows and friendships.

-
On that note ... Night, all, and let us be good to one another — and ourselves.
