For many folks,
#Prop8 was an unexpected election result — how could California do this? — that changed their political involvement. -
For others, it was the 2004 marriage amendment votes across the country. For others, it was DOMA in 1996. For others, earlier, it was AIDS.

Others, like Frank Kameny, were there decades earlier still.

Protest in the wake of elections — and of political leaders — is less the new or surprising, is my point. It is the norm.
