Another all-women lawyers day here at #SCOTUS!pic.twitter.com/FmbwDyp6Hm
Tremendous arguments. So fun to watch three smart lawyers dig into a tight procedural, substantive, and international legal norms question.
Seriously. Cate Stetson from @HoganLovells and Catherine Carroll from @WilmerHale, along w/ Elaine Goldenberg from @TheJusticeDept, all =
It's a complex case about pleading standards for cases brought under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act's expropriation exception—and yet!
The lawyering was so good because the lawyers really tried to help the justices find the answer to a serious, technical question.
Not possible in all cases, perhaps, if battle lines have been drawn too sharply, but it was outstanding to watch in a case where it was.
As for my first-take out of the args, it seems hard to figure how one would get to a majority for reversal.
tl;dr: Always the Law Dork, it me.
