FWIW, I saw folks of all ages and races intentionally making their way down to the FDR Memorial today for fun. https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/the-fdr-memorial-has-become-the-place-for-pokemon?utm_term=.ii8XGL3OP …

A mother from Montgomery County told me she brought her kids and her neighbors' kids down for Pokémon. They were having a great time.
-
I saw folks with law school and med school T-shirts on walking all over. I saw fathers and sons playing. People enjoying their friends.
-
Most of the monuments and memorials around DC aren't in-depth research events. Visiting is enough to flip a switch, get you thinking.
-
Hundreds of folks playing a game on their phone made their way down to the FDR Memorial today when they otherwise might never have done so.
-
If even a handful of them googled something about FDR this afternoon or tonight, that's pretty cool in my mind.
-
And, even for folks like me who have been to the monuments & memorials many times, this game has given us a pleasant reason to return.

@JimAvilaABC "Memorial decorum" is a long-running debate. 100 years ago cemeteries were treated as recreational parks… -
Today it varies. Memorials to recent deaths, e.g. Vietnam, 9/11, etc., are strictly solemn, but distant events…

eg [Admiral] Dupont Cir, [Battle of] Trafalgar Sq, Washington Mon., are allowed more behavioral leeway.
