Plagagiarism is a legal term. No one in the media should be using that term unless he/she is a judge or jury.

All words have definitions. Still -- plagiarism is a legal term. That's left for the courts -- not media and pundits

so is "assaulted" but if I'm assaulted I use the word. Words don't solely derive meaning from legal judgements.

Case law from assault dates back to the English crown. More established and easier to satisfy than messy plagiarism
