AG @LorettaLynch made her thoughts & views on #trans issues very clear to me recently: https://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/loretta-lynch-has-an-agenda-and-the-clock-is-ticking …pic.twitter.com/MU7eQE1Bdf
Here are the three claims raised in today's DOJ complaint against NC: https://www.buzzfeed.com/maryanngeorgantopoulos/north-carolina-governor-responds-to-the-justice-department?utm_term=.xrkD3o9R1k#.nqBXLZ4Bk9 …pic.twitter.com/zRrBojDvpQ
Attorney General Lynch says that #HB2 is "state-sponsored discrimination against transgender individuals."
Lynch notes that funding could be at issue moving forward, although the lawsuit is only a declaratory judgment action against #HB2.
Lynch connects Jim Crow laws, backlash to Brown v. Bd of Ed, laws against same-sex marriage, and #HB2.
Lynch: "This law provides no benefit to society, & only serves to harm" other Americans. "State-sanctioned discrimination never looks good."
PHEW. ALL.
Lynch, speaking "directly" to trans people: "We see you. We stand with you. And we will do everything we can to protect you forward."
Civil Rights Division Chief Vanita Gupta, adding to Lynch's remarks, says to #trans people: "You belong, just as you are."
Gupta on what #HB2 does: "That's sex discrimination, plain and simple. ... Transgender men are men. ... Transgender women are women."
Lynch on McCrory's comments that feds are bullying: "I think that the people who feel bullied are the transgender people in North Carolina."
