Why, NYT, do you insist on stylistically ignoring existence of trans people & protections in today's discussions?pic.twitter.com/zFBiT3H7ds

@chrisgeidner what exactly is "stylistically" wrong with this? the lede?
@gavin_stone___ @chrisgeidner is it that it doesn't even use the word trans or transgender and talks about the gay community instead?
@CuratedTV @gavin_stone___ By calling it "gay" in hed, lede, & some descriptions, it completely misstates what's going on & being sought.
@CuratedTV @gavin_stone___ Suggesting that what happened in Houston was a "gay" vote deceives readers — as even NYT's reporting showed.
@chrisgeidner It's SO bizarre. Has anyone ever spoken about it, like reporters or editors?
@KateAurthur Not that I've seen. At least not since the pronoun discussions. But that wasn't this, not precisely.
@chrisgeidner I wish I knew that reporter. I would just ask.
@KateAurthur @chrisgeidner @Sulliview is often responsive.
@cory_ep @chrisgeidner @Sulliview Always! But she's not inside the decision making (though she influences it, of course).
