Yes, Depp is pretty damn good in Black Mass. The story is compelling, if a bit scattered: at times slow-paced, other times skipping along.

The violence is brutal and at points seemed a bit much—but maybe necessary? The cast was filled with great folks, ~most~ of whom excelled.

I mean, Sarsgaard, Harbour, Cochrane were all fantastic, as was Julianne Nicholson. Edgerton, playing Connolly, was impressive as well.

There were some, though, who faltered despite great parts (Cumberbatch, Johnson) or who had parts that never really mattered (Scott, Stoll).

Overall, I think it succeeded, bc it made me want to know more about these stories. I would, tho, want to see what Boston folks think of it.
