@chrisgeidner then they probably should not have had an advisor employed by the school. Need more of a board of directors. -
@mherek Why "independent" student newspapers are valuable. But, at least a full-time journalism professor as adviser has a clear role. -
@chrisgeidner yes, but if the adviser is funded by the university, then it's not a good situation for "independence". -
@mherek Yes, those were 2 different thoughts. What you're proposing is an "independent" student newspaper, which some have & which are good. -
@mherek But, if there are educational student newspapers, they might not be truly independent, but they can be run solely under academic... -
@mherek ... supervision, which provides a level of independence (from tenured profs, for ex) and advances educational mission.
